What does International Women’s Day look like in a country with nearly 4,000 beauty pageants each year?

At first glance it looks a lot like it does in North America. Based on what’s coming through my social feeds, women (and men) here are working to support, empower, and thank each other for their efforts to achieve equality on all fronts.

Spanish translations of “International Women’s Day” and its variants are trending Twitter topics in Bogotá, bringing in not only the local perspective, but that of women throughout Latin America and Spain.

Unique to Colombia, though, is the emphasis on the role of women in the peace process and the coffee industry.
